Newsflash: Tibetan Terrorists bomb Shugden practitioner’s residence

2008-10-02

At least three Tibetans have been handed jail terms ranging from four to nine years in connection with several explosions in Markham county, Chamdo, during Tibetan protests earlier this year…..

No one was hurt in the blasts, three of which occurred at a Chinese military base camp, one at the Markham county office, three at an electric power transmission station, and one at the residence of a Tibetan who worships Shugden, a controversial deity espoused by Beijing but regarded with suspicion by those loyal to the Dalai Lama.

Comment: Who are the real "Taliban of Tibetan Buddhists"?

Earlier this year, Tibetan terrorists bombed the residence of a Dorje Shugden practitioner.

'Terrorist actions'

The security official said: "They carried out terrorist actions...If they don't appeal, they will be taken to Kongpo for imprisonment 10 days after sentencing. None had lodged an appeal by Sept. 30."

What makes this particularly horrible is that these terrorists were supposedly Buddhist monks, training in monasteries!

Moreover, the actions of these monks were clearly motivated by allegiance to the Dalai Lama, the supposed champion of peace and non-violence:

"No one was hurt in the blasts, three of which occurred at a Chinese military base camp, one at the Markham county office, three at an electric power transmission station, and one at the residence of a Tibetan who worships Shugden, a controversial deity espoused by Beijing but regarded with suspicion by those loyal to the Dalai Lama."

The followers of the Dalai Lama cannot blame this one on Chinese sympathizers trying to stir up trouble because three of the bombings were at Chinese military base camps.

And although Robert Thurman has falsely accused Shugden practitioners of being the Taliban of Tibetan Buddhism, there is no proof that any Shugden practitioner has ever been engaged in acts of terrorism. However, this is more clear proof that certain followers of the Dalai Lama -- and monks at that -- are no better than terrorists.

Thankfully, this time, no one was hurt; but, as Shugden practitioners have been pointing out, they are constantly subject to persecution and violence due to the Dalai Lama's repressive ban, and it is only a matter of time before one of them is killed.

The Dalai Lama and his government need to ask themselves some hard questions, including why monks loyal to them are engaged in such acts of pre-meditated violence and how an innocent Dorje Shugden practitioner could come to be the target of such violence.

Comments on this breaking news story are welcome.

Outrageous ... just another example of the Tibetan Government's lies. In the new Al Jazeera video, http://www.westernshugdensociety.org/press/the-dalai-lama-the-devil-within/ it quotes Samdhong Rinpoche as saying that Shugden practitioners are all terrorists. Al Jazeera shrewdly follows up by pointing out that "not a single Shugden practitioner has actually been accused or convicted of terrorism". What more obvious depiction of Samdhong Rinpoche's lies do we need? Yet here is an article indicating how misguided, young, and over-zealous Tibetan monks are being misled to commit terrorist actions against Shugden practitioners and others. So sad!

I think the ongoing debate between DL and DS supporters is disgracing buddhism. Instead of posting stories like this, it may be wise to open up discussions and try to come to a resolution. People on the outside are growing tired of buddhists slinging mud. You are not a good example to society anymore in the way it was in the past and thats sad. I respected buddhism and now I am telling you to stop the cat fighting as its sickening from all sides.

learn to love again because all those negative attacks are turning you all into haters

There have been so many requests made to the Dalai Lama for dialogue and understanding. I agree with you that this issue shows Buddhism in a bad light - how wonderful if the Dalai Lama can show a good Buddhist example and at least talk about resolving this issue..that's his reponsibility..meanwhile if we did nothing to stand up for our beliefs and lineage the situation would get even worse..

reply to anonymous post "i think the ongoing debate between DL and DS supporters..."

Is Buddhism really served by covering up what's going on so that we Westerners can all hang on to our safety blanket of perceived perfection of one of the involved parties in the dispute?
Being fooled by appearances is exactly what Buddha teaches to abandon... We should work to achieve perfection, not to pretend perfection. Right now, things are not well.

Should we just lie down and pretend all is well in Buddhist land when clearly it is not?
How does that sit with the Bodhisattva vows?
A Bodhisattva never vows to be conformist for the sake of appearances, a Bodhisattva will always act when suffering occurs.
I'm not implying that I'm a Bodhisattva, but I try to live by that code of conduct. That includes speaking up for minorities and that unfortunately involves bringing to light some inconvenient truths - inconvenient truths for both the DL and the Westerners who so much long for the truth to be different from what it actually is.

These postings are made to create awareness that something is wrong and with the hope that a discussion can after all be had - after years of silence as response to requests for dialogue and silent maneuvering on the DL's part to achieve political advantages and in the process destroying the faith of countless practitioners, causing countless practitioners to break samaya with their gurus, or forcing them to practice in secret, hacking away Gelugpa lineage gurus thus destroying the blessings of the lineage.

And all that can happen because we don't question, because we are afraid what we might see the truth. It's not mud slinging, it's pulling away the safety blanket.

Samdhong Rinpoche's comments show how much this exile leadership is caught up in believing their own lies, slogans, etc. and in great denial of the reality of their situation.

First he just says Shugden followers are terrorists, etc. without any case history to show for. Second he believes in a society that should be segregated in based on religious beliefs and especially oppressing certain groups. With this social belief any talk of democracy is like talking about swimming on the moon.

I think the ongoing debate between DL and DS supporters is disgracing buddhism.

Just to add to the other comments regarding the above post, this is no longer simply a 'debate' - people's lives are being affected and suffering is being experienced by many Shugden practitioners.

We should remember that if these monks had not committed these crimes, this article would not have been written. Furthermore, if the Dalai Lama had not imposed his religious ban and indoctrinated his followers against a group of innocent Buddhist practitioners, these monks would never have perpetrated these crimes. So ultimately it is the Dalai Lama is responsible for all of these harmful actions.

Without dialogue none of this will change and the Dalai Lama refuses to discuss. Therefore we have no option but to draw people's attention to the truth of the Dalai Lama’s religious discrimination.

... and so it is the Dalai Lama who is responsible for any perceived disgrace on Buddhism!

no one says the practice cannot be done quietly alone....
Hello
There is a chinese invasion of Tibet and practices are supposed to go underground thatsall.
Inside outside not same one cannot show true face in dangerous times. Tibet is a big country to be returned to rightful indigenous inhabitants follow the leaders. And at home you do as you wish. One useless confusion for no reason at all. Weakening Gelugpa for the sake of sentient beings. Look at larger picture, traditions will adapt to environments and time. Maybe apparent division is how to survive. Meat is also not allowed yet I see many meat momos in monasteries.
